Vic's hospitality consulting career started in 1993
after pre-opening the first Shangri-La hotel in the
Philippines, EDSA Shangri-La Manila (there are 4
Shangri-La hotels in the Philippines) as it's human
resources director. His consulting services include
hotel and resort pre-openings and management,
organisational development, recruitment (executive and
mass hiring), training development and facilitation,
standards & procedures writing, design of performance
management systems, design of staff incentive programs
among other human capital disciplines.
He has developed and conducted his own training modules.
These programs include leadership training (Engaging
Executives); supervisory training (Supervise Now!);
train the trainers; team building (Team ++); service
excellence (Excellent! It 's All About Attitude!);
strategic planning, vision, mission & value statements
writing, values formation and several skills development
modules (food service, butler service, front office,
concierge service and housekeeping).
In the aspect of executive recruitment, he has placed
top level professionals specifically general managers,
resident managers, f&b directors, executive chefs,
pastry chefs, specialty chefs (Filipino, Japanese,
Korean, Thai, French, Italian, Western), rooms
directors, sales & marketing directors, financial
controllers and human resources directors. Many of his
placements are expatriates. His placements also include
second level managers like front office managers, chief
engineers and executive housekeepers.
He has rendered several consulting services for hotels
and resorts all over the country specifically on the
following: organisational right sizing, staff policies &
procedures, writing of the code of conduct, development
of human resources information systems, development of
employee cooperative systems, organisation of
employee-management councils, design of staff
productivity programs, design of staff recognition
programs and design of staff communications programs.
Overseas, Vic staffed the Shangri-la's Barr-Al Jissah
Resort & Spa in Muscat, Oman with over 300 Filipino
hotel professionals up to manager levels during it's
opening in 2005. He also staffed the Dusit Thani Dubai,
the Movenpick Kuwait and the W Qatar. While he was with
Shangri-la, he was deeply exposed to the different Asian
cultures in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hongkong.
Earlier, during his time with Philippine Airlines, Vic
was based in Seattle, Washington, USA for the special
in-flight training of the Boing 747's. A year later, he
was sent to Tolouse, France this time to train for our
acquisition of the Airbus 300's.
Vic is an adviser for two institutions, Center for
Culinary Arts Manila (CCA) which is recognised as the
pioneer and leading culinary institute in the country
and the Asian School of Hospitality Arts (ASHA) which
has five campuses all over the Philippines. He is a
columnist for the leading industry trade magazine F&B
World as well as for Cruising, Going Places Magazine.
These two magazines are published by the top publishing
companies in the country, Inquirer and Bulletin. Vic's
first authored booked entitled 'Hospitality Superstars'
will be launched in July 2014. His second book entitled
'History of International Hotel Chains in the
Philippine' will be published in June 2015.
Vic was a co-founder of the industry's most prestigious
service excellence awards program called 'Mabuhay
Awards' which we started in 1996. The awards include the
most coveted 'Mabuhay Gold - Hotelier of the Year
Award'. AHRM or the Association of Human Resources
Managers in the Hospitality Industry is the proponent of
awards and of which he is now a lifetime member, having
been it's president three times in the past.
